Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine to spotlight any upcoming releases you are eagerly anticipating!

Publication Date: 7th February 2012

I simply cannot wait for this new dystopian – I’ll admit, the synopsis keeps it fairly vague, and it sounds like your typical dystopian YA, but hey – I love dystopian YA!!! What’s really got me excited about this one is all the 5 star reviews it’s already got on Goodreads – in fact, its pretty much all 5 star reviews from those lucky enough to have gotten their hands on an ARC. Not so impressed by the covers though, the one that will be released over here is the pink and white design (I think) which looks plain awkward to me, and the blue’s not much better. Pretty safe and bland. Still – never judge a book by it’s cover!

‘Aria is a teenager in the enclosed city of Reverie. Like all Dwellers, she spends her time with friends in virtual environments, called Realms, accessed through an eyepiece called a Smarteye. Aria enjoys the Realms and the easy life in Reverie. When she is forced out of the pod for a crime she did not commit, she believes her death is imminent. The outside world is known as The Death Shop, with danger in every direction.

As an Outsider, Perry has always known hunger, vicious predators, and violent energy storms from the swirling electrified atmosphere called the Aether. A bit of an outcast even among his hunting tribe, Perry withstands these daily tests with his exceptional abilities, as he is gifted with powerful senses that enable him to scent danger, food and even human emotions.

They come together reluctantly, for Aria must depend on Perry, whom she considers abarbarian, to help her get back to Reverie, while Perry needs Aria to help unravel the mystery of his beloved nephew’s abduction by the Dwellers. Together they embark on a journey challenged as much by their prejudices as by encounters with cannibals and wolves. But to their surprise, Aria and Perry forge an unlikely love – one that will forever change the fate of all who live UNDER THE NEVER SKY’

Scarlet by A.C Gaughen

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine to spotlight any upcoming releases you are eagerly anticipating!

You guys!!! I just hope this turns out to be as amazing as it sounds! Confession – I love all things Robin Hood and and this one has a fearless heroine (Marian was always useless imo) who, I’m guessing, is Will Scarlet! A female Will Scarlet!!! Cannot wait!

Although – her falling for Robin Hood is a bit cliche, personally I think Allan A Dale needs some romance (or possibly I’m just thinking of Joe Armstrong…). Mind you, if the Gisbourne looked like Richard Armitage, I wouldn’t care how evil he was…

Scarlet is out February next year.

Many readers know the tale of Robin Hood, but they will be swept away by this new version full of action, secrets, and romance. Posing as one of Robin Hood’s thieves to avoid the wrath of the evil Thief Taker Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only the Hood and his band know the truth: the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. Helping the people of Nottingham outwit the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham could cost Scarlet her life as Gisbourne closes in. It’s only her fierce loyalty to Robin—whose quick smiles and sharp temper have the rare power to unsettle her—that keeps Scarlet going and makes this fight worth dying for.

A Breath of Jane Eyre by Eve Marie Mont

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine to spotlight any upcoming releases you are eagerly anticipating!

I just adore Jane Eyre. I’ve read it so many times, so when I heard about this it immediately went on my ’2012 must haves’ list on Amazon. I’ve seen (and read) many re-tellings or contemporary versions of Pride and Prejudice but I can’t think of any for Jane Eyre. I hope this is as good as it sounds – the cover unfortunately looks a bit Mills and Boons – I’ll have to wait until April 2012 to find out!

‘Emma Townsend has always believed in stories—the ones she reads voraciously, and the ones she creates in her head. Perhaps it’s because she feels like an outsider at her exclusive prep school, or because her stepmother doesn’t come close to filling the void left by her mother’s death. And her only romantic prospect—apart from a crush on her English teacher—is Gray Newman, a long-time friend who just adds to Emma’s confusion. But escape soon arrives in an old leather-bound copy of Jane Eyre…

Reading of Jane’s isolation sparks a deep sense of kinship. Then fate takes things a leap further when a lightning storm catapults Emma right into Jane’s body and her nineteenth-century world. As governess at Thornfield, Emma has a sense of belonging she’s never known—and an attraction to the brooding Mr. Rochester. Now, moving between her two realities and uncovering secrets in both, Emma must decide whether her destiny lies in the pages of Jane’s story, or in the unwritten chapters of her own…’

The Fine Art of Truth or Dare by Melissa Jensen

Yeah. They had me at ‘…meets Anna and the French Kiss’. You can bet I’m excited about this one. Which was totally their evil master plan when they put that on the synopsis. But I don’t care. I’m going willingly. If its anywhere near as Good (see – they get a capital ‘G’) as Stephanie Perkin’s books I’ll be one happy, happy girl. Another one that’s out in February next year. Pre-orders here I come…

Pretty in Pink meets Anna and the French Kiss in this charming romantic comedy

Ella is nearly invisible at the Willing School, and that’s just fine by her. She’s got her friends – the fabulous Frankie and their sweet cohort Sadie. She’s got her art – and her idol, the unappreciated 19th-century painter Edward Willing. Still, it’s hard being a nobody and having a crush on the biggest somebody in the school: Alex Bainbridge. Especially when he is your French tutor, and lessons have started becoming, well, certainly more interesting than French ever has been before. But can the invisible girl actually end up with a happily ever after with the golden boy, when no one even knows they’re dating? And is Ella going to dare to be that girl?’

Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine to spotlight any upcoming releases you are eagerly anticipating!

This cover is delicious. It’s one of those books I almost don’t care what it’s about I just want it because it’s so pretty. It’s going to look gorgeous in hardback – which I fully intend to buy. But, better yet, it’s a witchy book. I love a good witch book  (hello – massive Charmed fan!) Especially if it’s historical as well. There’s already quite a bit of buzz about this on the blogs, and already some very very glowing reviews on Goodreads. I can’t wait. Born Wicked is out February 7th 2012 (I totally freaked out then until I remembered it is 2011 and no it won’t be a year and half wait).

‘Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they’re witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word . . . especially after she finds her mother’s diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family’s destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren’t safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.’

The Nightmare Garden (Iron Codex 2) by Caitlin Krittredge

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine to spotlight any upcoming releases you are eagerly anticipating!

Long wait for this one unfortunately – its not out until February 14th next year, but I’m so excited about it. I was pretty blown away by the first book which definitely stood out among so many others when I read it. This is a rich and complex series and I just loved pretty much everything about it, the mood, the atmosphere, the characters (you can read my review here). I’m generally not a fairy kind of person, but I love the dark, sly creatures from in these. Bonus – this cover is just as lovely as the first book – I’ll definitely be pre-ordering the hardcover version.

‘Everything Aoife thought she knew about the world was a lie. There is no Necrovirus. And Aoife isn’t going to succomb to madness because of a latent strain—she will lose her faculties because she is allergic to iron. Aoife isn’t human. She is a changeling—half human and half from the land of Thorn. And time is running out for her.

When Aoife destroyed the Lovecraft engine she released the monsters from the Thorn Lands into the Iron Lands and now she must find a way to seal the gates and reverse the destruction she’s ravaged on the world that’s about to poison her.
